Situated in the northern section of central Toronto resides the flourishing community of North York. An area that offers a vast selection of real estate properties and condominiums for sale or rent. The city of North York was amalgamated in 1998 into the Greater Toronto Area along with 5 other boroughs at the time. But it didn’t slow down the area’s growth, in fact it only intensified. Condo developers had a field day creating many apartment towers designed to ease congestion in the downtown zone of Toronto.

Along its Yonge Street corridor between the avenues of Finch and Sheppard you’ll find sprawling condominium apartment tower complexes and office towers. These are all serviced by the North York Centre subway station, which can be entered through the two large adjacent shopping malls via a subterranean passageway called the Empress Walk.

But besides the downtown area there are condos available throughout the region. There are many bargains to be had too for those who take the time to shop around. I’ve seen a two-bedroom apartment condo selling cheap, while a six bedroom, 2-storey townhouse was a real bargain.

There are an abundance of schools in North York, of worthy mention is York University the country’s third largest. It features some renowned faculties such as the Osgoode Hall School of Law and the Schulich Business School. An extensive transit network services the region so commuting is never a problem.

Shopping malls abound. Some of the larger and more popular ones are the Fairview Mall, Bayview Village, Yorkdale Shopping Centre and the Sheppard Centre. There are plenty of entertainment venues to be had as well, such as theatres, concerts, sporting events and restaurants. For those wanting a little culture there are art galleries such as the Joseph D. Carrier gallery as well as the Toronto Centre for the Arts.

People wanting a more rustic adventure can visit the Black Creek Pioneer Village. The village, which represents life in the 1800’s, offers historical re-enactments, many historical buildings as well as a general store, craftspeople and artisans who sell their wares. It’s fun for the whole family and anyone who is a history buff.

If you have more of an inquisitive mind you might want to check out the Ontario Science Centre, which features many exhibits. Some are active exhibits that you can actually participate in.

For those who are sports oriented there are all kinds of athletic associations and clubs. From golf, swimming, tennis, hockey and soccer. There is something for just about everyone. Kids will have much to choose from if they want to enroll in one of the various sports programs available.

Life in North York can be laid back or vibrant, whatever you prefer. The housing market can suit any taste that condo lovers may have. You’ll never be at a loss for real estate opportunities and if you are diligent can even find plenty of bargains in the process.
